Search for movies, series, channels and shows
On this page
The short answer
To search in Tunvio, open the search field “Search Live TV, Movies & Series…” on the home screen and type at least 3 characters. On a phone, use the search icon on the home screen or the search entry in “Live TV”, “Movies” or “Series”.
What you need
- A playlist that is already loaded. Tunvio searches the channels, movies and series of your active playlist. See how to add a playlist.
- The “Filter” button inside the results is a separate function. In the app you see whether it is included in your plan (see below).
Open the search
- On the home screen of a TV, tablet or computer, select the search field “Search Live TV, Movies & Series…”.
- On a phone, tap the search icon on the home screen. When you are in “Live TV”, “Movies” or “Series” already, use the search icon or the search entry at the top. It opens the same search and starts on the tab of the section you came from.
- On a TV, tablet or computer, a typing window opens right away. On a TV, type with the on-screen keyboard and select “Search”. On a tablet or computer, type in the field and select “Apply”.
- To type a new term later on those devices, select the search tile in front of the first result (on a TV, press left from the first result). In “Movies” and “Series” a menu opens first: choose “Search all content”.
Type your search
- Type the name of a movie, series, channel, actor or director. On a phone, the field says “Start typing to search…”.
- Type at least 3 characters. With fewer, Tunvio shows “Enter at least 3 characters”. Short names such as RTL or ZDF work.
- Wait a moment. On a phone the results update when you stop typing. On a TV, tablet or computer they appear after you confirm the term.
Small typing mistakes are fine. If a title matches only loosely, it comes after the exact matches, marked “Did you mean…?”.
Tunvio remembers search terms that led you to a result and offers them as suggestions, for example on the TV keyboard. You can remove them under Settings, “Data & storage”, in the section “Clear data”: select “Clear recent searches”.
Read the result tabs
The results are sorted into tabs: “Live TV”, “Movies”, “Series”, “People” and “Programs”. The number on a tab is the number of results for your term. “Programs” shows its number once you open it. If you did not start from a section, Tunvio opens the first of the tabs “Live TV”, “Movies”, “Series” and “People” that has results. On a TV, press up or down to change the tab.
- “Live TV”: channels whose name matches.
- “Movies” and “Series”: titles from your playlist.
- “People”: actors and directors. Select a person to open their page. This tab uses the movie and series information Tunvio has loaded for your titles, so it only finds people who are credited in your own catalog. It is not available on Samsung TVs.
- “Programs”: shows in the TV guide of the channels in your playlist.
Search a name in “Movies” or “Series” and the titles of that person can also appear below the exact matches, in a row such as “With” followed by the name.
Find a show in the TV guide
- Select the tab “Programs” and type the name of a show.
- The results are grouped: “On now”, “Coming up” and “In the archive”. While Tunvio reads the TV guide for the first time, it shows “Reading the TV guide…”.
- Select a show to see its airings. An airing that is “On now” plays the channel. An airing “In the archive” plays from the channel's archive if your provider offers catch-up. An airing under “Coming up” opens its details.
Open a result and use filters
- Select a movie or series to open its page. Select a channel to play it.
- Hold a movie or series (on a remote, hold OK) for quick actions such as favorites, downloads or trailers.
- In “Movies” and “Series” the “Filter” button narrows the results, for example by genre, rating, release year or age rating. On a TV, select the search tile in front of the first result and choose “Filter”. In the app you see whether this function is included in your plan. The filter does not apply to “Live TV”.
If it does not work
- “Enter at least 3 characters”. Type a longer term. Search does not start before the third character.
- “No results found”. Check the spelling and try another tab. If the playlist was added only a moment ago, Tunvio may still be loading it: a notice says “Catalog still loading” or that your provider's full list is still loading and some titles or channels are missing until it arrives. Try again later.
- “No matches — relax the filter”. A filter is active. Open “Filter” and remove some of its settings.
- “No one by that name”. In the tab “People”, nobody in your catalog is credited with this name. Try the last name only or search in “Movies” and “Series”.
- “No programs found”. The TV guide of your channels has no show with that name. The search covers the guide data of the channels in your playlist, so a missing TV guide gives no results.
- The tab “People” is missing. Samsung TVs do not offer it.
